I promised more pages from my scrapbooking efforts on Friday so here ’tis!…..
After…completed with the final embellishments
I got the chance to spend 10 hours, yes that’s right girls, 10 hours, scrapping on Friday. It was the first time I’ve gotten a chance to work on my scrapbooks since before Thanksgiving. Here’s one of the pages I’ve almost completed. It needs a little more work. I hope to post more tomorrow!
IN HIM…julie
“Because of his love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his children – this was his pleasure and purpose.” (Ephesians 1:5
We will never get to the bottom of this: that God made us for his pleasure. We are much more likely to think of God as someone to obey, revere, and not offend. Our natural tendency is to think that God is out to get us. We walk on eggshells around him. We imagine him at best disinterested in our lives, and at worst, as one waiting to pounce on us over our next misdeed. But to gain pleasure from us? To have created us for his own joy is beyond us. That, by the way, is one reason why I know this is true. Something this wonderful could only be something God revealed to us; we could never have come up with this on our own.
Just what is it about us that brings him pleasure? First off, we are like him. He looks at us and sees himself because he made us to reflect his image. We have a heart, a will, emotions, and a moral conscience. Because of this, God can relate to us and communicate with us. God can have fellowship with us, in other words, and this is one of the main reasons we were created. Plus, we know from examples of men and women in the Old Testament that this fellowship can take on all the typical characteristics of human relationships – arguing, bargaining, cajoling, forgiving, even wrestling (God and Jacob – Genesis 32:22-32) appears to be a part of the human/divine relationship and something in which God takes pleasure or he wouldn’t indulge in it.
This is why we receive so much pleasure when we worship God outright through prayer, meditation, or music. We are doing the most important part of what we were meant to do. David’s greatest joy was to meditate on the law of God day and night.
But don’t leave out the rest of our lives that can be lived out as an act of worship. Paul encourages us to do everything we do to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). He wouldn’t have suggested this if it weren’t possible. That would mean that a host of activities and interests commonly thought of as “secular” could take on the quality and function of worship in our daily lives. And in all of this, God takes pleasure.
Try and live today within the reality that you are bringing God pleasure. We started out that way without doing anything, so consider how living with that consciousness can affect your choices, thoughts, and actions.
This year our family is planning on a vacation with 4-5 other families from our church to Harbor Island SC. We’ve never done this before and I’m trusting the Lord to work it all out. We need a house we can afford and one that will allow us to bring our cute little dog in the blog entry below. Why am I telling you all this? So that you can pray for us. I am trusting God to provide what we need. Will you join me in prayer? I look forward to sharing with you what He does for us.
IN HIM,

Snoozing on a Rainy Afternoon…
Could they get anymore comfortable???
Here are a few pictures from Christmas at our house and below a few words of wisdom from my Christmas Gift from God.
Baby girl and I got to pose for a rare picture together. We were in our pajamas as we opened gifts on a rainy Christmas morning.
Our youngest son received a sweet little stuffed puppy for Christmas.
Our middle son loves camouflage and he got vest with tons of pockets for his air soft guns.
Our oldest son got a couple of football shirts and models one here.
My best friend came to visit and spend Christmas with our family. Here she is around the campfire Christmas Eve.
This year I learned AGAIN that God gives each of us a gift on Christmas. We sometimes have to seek the gift, but it’s always there. It’s not in plain sight all the time. Sometimes it’s hidden like a treasure for us to seek out.
This all began with the Christmas gift God have my pastor. When we renovated the metal building we use for worship we encountered some debt. Not a great deal, mind you, but some. God saw fit to pay off that debt on Christmas Eve. Just for our pastor. It was God’s gift to him.
There were two other adults at my kitchen table with our friend and pastor burst into the kitchen to tell us the wonderful news. NO more DEBT.
My Christmas gift this year was to learn Less is More. I know, it sounds simple but it’s not in a world that tells us we need more and more and more. As many of you read, I bought too much for my kids this year and we ended up giving at least half of it away Christmas Day night. You can read about that story HERE. Within that gift was also the insight of seeing that my children respond to what I nurture in them. As I was packing up the gifts to deliver Christmas Day they each brought something to also wrap for the family God was to lead us to.
I believe my husband got a gift too. I’m not sure he knows what it is yet, but I’m sure it’s there.
And my best friend got a pretty neat gift too. I can’t talk about that yet but I hope to be able to soon.
Eight years ago my Jesus gave me the gift of my first son on Christmas Day. I remember distinctly HIS voice telling me in the wee hours of the night that the reason he was born on Chrismtas Day was because he was HIS gift to me. God chose 9 days past my due date, Christmas Day very specifically. To make sure I knew my son was HIS gift to me.
Do you need to ask your Jesus what His gift to you was this Christmas. I’m sure He’s got one for you.
"Lord, thank you for the greatest gift…..yourself"

gift, Christmas, Jesus, seeking, less is more
Some of you who read my Tips on the Tip of the Day in November on the Company Porch were promised our annual burning of the Christmas Tree pictures. Well here they are. Because of a big weather system we ended up scheduling the even a few days early. It’s raining buckets here today. So, here you go….complete with bottle rockets, firecrackers and lots of diesel fuel! Have a blessed New Year! Julie
Nope, not me but HERE
But I heard about a great way that Kelly at Pass the Torch is raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her corporate sponsor, Empowering Youth Inc. , will donate $1 for every comment she receives on this entry before Saturday night. Isn’t that fabulous?!
I’m always amazed at God. I hope He never stops amazing me. He’s so wonderful. From the joy and peace I feel having a very full and blessed life to the pain I pray others through I see HIM reveal Himself. This Christmas has been no different.
First of all, one of my very good friends is about to meet what we both think is a very wonderful man. I’m so excited for her. I pray that God blows her away with this man and that he is HIS gift for her.
Second, I was part of praying a sweet little child through RSV this Christmas.
Third, I am part of praying another good friend through a tough time in her marriage right now. Oh, Lord give her strength and wisdom.
Fourth, I got to experience the pain of my children’s flesh this Christmas as well as the joy of their innocence. After believing the lie of "my kids need more" before Christmas God used the lie and turned it into blessing for two needy families this season. My kids argued and were not very nice to one another on Christmas Eve as we gave them their treehouse, skateboards and other outdoor toys. It so saddened my heart to see the greediness of our flesh in them. But Christmas Day night we took toys to two families in need.
I just bought too much. They didn’t need all I purchased. So most of it never got seen. We left it hidden. And Monday night we packed the back of the car and set off to find a family in need. We prayed as we left the driveway that God would show us where we needed to go. And He did. A grandpa, a mom, another mom and two precious children received gifts Christmas night. Then another family who’s dad can’t find work because they don’t have cars that work received gifts for their two kids.
Isn’t God just wonderful? My kids even wrapped several of the toys they had gotten to give to the needy families. What a blessing to see them giving out of their hearts. My youngest son gave his brand new helicopter. My middle son gave all 74 of his MatchBox cars. And my oldest gave his Darth Vader voicechanger mask and light saber.
Wow!
Lord, help me to nurture in them the spirit of love. The spirit of giving. The spirit of selflessness. Raise up in them a spirit of joy that only comes from serving you. Make all else empty. And thank you for allowing me to be a part of the awesome things you do.
I love you….your daughter, Julie
Since Christmas Day was calling for 100% rain we decided to give the boys thier outdoor toys Christmas Eve day. The tree house was unveiled. The zip line was completed. Skateboards were unwrapped. Monster size Tonka truck were run up and down the driveway all day long. Christmas Eve day ended with a campfire and my great friend still visiting me. It was awesome. We had other friends stop by for a cup of coffee around the fire. It was great! I guess one of the awesome things about not doing Santa is that we get to decide when the children get their gifts, not Santa. Today would have been horrible for anything outdoors.
So here are the kids enjoying their first trip up and into the tree house. Zip line pictures will have to be posted later.
The TREEHOUSE
Here they are making their way up the ladder/ramp when we got home from church.
First son found HIS skateboard right off!
A proud dad by his Alma Mater!
Just know that the fact my kid could actually look like this even when kidding around scares the dickens out of me. It just isn’t right!!!
That’s a little more like it. Not quite as "bubba"ish and more "cowboy"ish.
Merry Christmas!
Julie
