Another effect of the ice storm

Well last night we threw away the Christmas tree.  Three days before Christmas and I'm undecorating the tree and shoving it out the front door.  You see when the power went out because of the ice storm and we left for Alabama no one watered the tree for about 5 days.  Then the heat came back on and there was a vent right beside the tree so I'm sure all that forced air didn't help keep the ole tree hydrated.

I was willing to leave it up until Christmas and then take it down but my husband had visions of my boys with a lighter setting the thing ablaze.  He was worried that it would take down the whole house.  So we went from this…..

To this:

I guess it's not the size that counts but the sentiment, huh???

  1. We were using a “real” tree and about 2 days before Christmas, we found out that the tree was making me sick. My daughter was 2 and I thouhgt, she won’t notice or remember. My mom had a fit when she found out that we won’t have a tree on Christmas. I didn’t have the money to go buy a new tree, so my mom sent me to the store to get one. She said “Don’t buy the biggest but don’t get a tiny one either. Well I went to K-mart and they were having a sale on what they had left for trees, and there wsn’t much to choose from. I got one in the price range my parents told me to spend(They were paying for it). It is the most beautiful tree I had ever seen and to this day my father comes over and sees it and says” You know that really is my tree and I could take it to my house if I wanted to”. He is joking with me after all these years about it. It is a very big, full tree. One that I would never have tried to buy myself.

I thought you might like to know that someone else had to throw out a tree before Christmas one year also.,

    Have a Merry Christmas!!

I don’t know the Robertses… I actually came across a prayer request for them and when I went to the site, was touched and amazed. I just had to put them on my blog… small world huh? Amazing how the Lord uses people to touch others’ lives.

    Blessings to you and yours!

Oh – I’m sorry about the tree and the ice storm . . . Ice – can’t relate here in AZ! But I do think that if your sweet table-top tree comes with peace of mind for Dad, then that’s the best tree you can have. It’s just not worth the risk.

As for our allergy children – yes, the wheat daughter also has dairy (cow) issues. And the other one is allergic to soy! It’s going to be an interesting culinary year in 2006!

    Merry Christmas,

    Mrs. L
