Beautiful colors in broken vessels

I love light.  Maybe it’s the photographer in me, maybe the Jesus in me, maybe both.  I just know I love to watch the way sunlight plays in the evenings.  I love the warmth of the sun at that time of day.  I’m not a morning person but I know if I was I’d love the morning light too.

Last night I took my camera outside to play with my new lens.  It was one of those warm spring evenings where the sun still cast long shadows across our yard as it was disappearing behind the trees.

These pictures of my daughter’s chalk box made me think of God.  And it made me think of myself.  I’m amazed at how beautiful the colors are inside  of us even though they are contained in broken vessels.  When we accept Christ he gives us a new heart (a beautiful sparky colorful one).  I can rest in knowing my heart is good.  But only because it was given to me by Him.

Hoping you can rest in Him today

Yesterday's Field Trip

Yesterday we went to one of our favorite spots for a field trip.  My husband went with us which was a treat for me and for the kids.  The day ended up being overcast so the mountain stream was frigid!!  The kids enjoyed getting freezing wet but I think next time I’ll wait for a nice "sun-shiney" day.

This is my good friend’s child Ian with baby girl. I love the expression on baby girl’s face.  She had just put her foot in the water and found out how incredibly cold it was.

Here is my second born…"boys will be boys!"

This is a great shot of baby Ian.  Even he cooperated in this one.

Baby girl…

We were looking for spawning toads which we got to see last year.
(Spawning toad 2006)

It was incredible to see the toads but this year they weren’t around for us to see so we had to settle for this little guy…

And we tried a family photo….
but the eldest was at the car changing into dry clothes and baby girl just wasn’t happy!
So here’s 5/6 of our family or 2/3 if you count our dog Sparky who was there but also "not pictured"

Have a great day!

No longer waiting

One of my new lenses came in and I LOVE it!  I’ve had so much fun taking photographs.  It’s so fast and just a great addition to my bag of camera goodies.

I have a question for all you plant lovers….
We have the most magnificent bush in the front of our house that blooms every spring.  It smells heavenly!  it really does make just getting out of the car a treat.  Now for my question…does anyone know what this bush is???  We’ve lived here 8 years and still don’t know.

Still waiting…

I’m still waiting on those lenses.  I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake by ordering one off Ebay.  The guy sent it Parcel Post.  A big ole expensive lens Parcel Post!!  What is up with that??  Can you tell I’m just waiting to be angry?  I’m hoping that it is packaged well.

In the meantime I’m still having fun with the Macro lens a friend let me borrow.  Here’s a couple pics of baby girl and the shadows on the wall from our suncatchers.

"I’m just thinking mom, I’m not sure I want my picture taken!"

"But if you insist I guess it’s okay."

Not very "in focus" but still cool, huh??

Waiting, oh just waiting !

Well I got my new lenses ordered and I anxiously await the mail lady every day.  In the mean time a good friend of mine let me borrow his 100mm 2.8 macro lens tonight.  Oh, I’ve had fun trying it out.  This lens is VERY different from the two I own now.  It’s heavier and I’m manually focusing.  I’m also manually doing everything else.  Setting my own ISO and all that jazz…
So here’s some of the fun I’ve had tonight.  What do you think?

This was my first subject.  I played with the lightening for a while and settled on this with my tripod as my knees.

Then the corner of the frame on the wall looked interested.  And yep, it still looks cool.

This is my favorite shot.  My bible on top of my husband’s bible.  So much  right there in that photo….so much!!

As you can see mine is held together with a nice array of packing tape.  It does the trick!  Much love in it the 13 years I’ve owned it.  It was a precious gift to me from my best friend.

I had moved into the office and closer to the computer by this time.  Here lies today’s jewelry, a little of out focus but still very interesting to me that I can shoot under the lightening here.
Oh girls, do you see the dust on those pretty shiney balls???  Still cool though!

"I shall not be detered by something as significant as dust!!"

And here was the last shot (it’s 11 and we must sleep) I loved the light play here.

So as you can see I’m off to learning!  Aren’t you proud of me Alyssa?
And everyone leave a comment for Rod and tell him how nice he is for letting me use his big old lens!!!  Yea Rod!  You’re the MAN!

always in HIM…

Freaky Friday Foto

Heads or Tails?
I think tails!

Just when you think you are making progress

There have been many beautiful blogs that I have read recently who’s owners are such great photographers and Photoshop enthusiasts.  I’ve been impressed and have been motivated to try my hand at learning more about Photoshop and how to use it and have fun with it.
Then I came across this photo blog today (actually a flickr account) and I was floored.  This person is a marvel.  If you have time to browse her photos and her artwork she is amazing!!
I humbly succumb…I’ll never be that good!
(sniff, sniff)

New Camera Goodies

February is usually a good month for us financially.  Taxes and bonuses roll in about this time of year.  So while we are still on the Dave Ramsey get out of debt plan we usually splurge and spend money on something both me and my hubbie have wanted.

This year he wanted some new exercise equipment and I was contemplating a few things for my camera.  I use a Canon XTi but have two others that I use occasionally too.  My first digital camera was a Kodak Easyshare DX6490.  I still love that camera when all I want to do is capture something on film and I’m not busy trying to learn (which is where I am with the Canon).  And for Mother’s Day last year I asked for a pocket camera so that I could always have one with me to capture those moments I won’t get otherwise.  It’s a Fuji Z5.  I love that little guy too.  Having these two smaller cameras also allows my kids a chance to take pictures without me having to worry about their sweet little hands on my Canon.

All that said I’ve decided to buy a Canon 58mm f1.8 lens this year.  I’m so excited about getting it.  After spending two days reading up on the lens I’m even more excited.  I’ve learned some cool words like the term for that wonderful “out of focus blur” that is so desirable in portrait shots is BOKEH. And it has a lot to do with the lens you are using, not the camera or the photographer (yippee).  Here’s an article I enjoyed reading about the subject.  It has great examples and is easily understood.

I’ve also learned a lot about f-stop.  Why someone couldn’t come up with a few easily understood words is amazing to me. If you would like to read more about this particular lens you can find great reviews here. Alyssa at Live and Learn has helped in my decision making process.  She has some great advice on photography so check the tips on her blog if you have a chance.
Here’s a good discussion about f-stop or aperture.
And this is a good practical discussion about aperture(or f-stop) /ISO/ Shutterspeed and how they work together.

There’s a lot to learn when you dip further into the photography world.  Meshing all of it together can sometimes feel overwhelming.  So I allow myself times to learn and times just to shoot pictures in hopes that SOMETHING comes out good enough that I can fix anything that’s wrong in Photoshop.

One thing if for certain.  I love taking pictures.  It’s a gift my dad passed down to both me and my sister.

Thanks Dad!!

Last Night's Lunar Eclipse

Here is a great site where you can view the Lunar Eclipse from different places in the world.  It’s really cool.  It took a while to load since the site is busy but it’s worth the wait.
Enjoy
