Wordless Wednesday – An Undefeated Football Season

From last night’s game:
My husband coaches and two of my sons play.

Photo Challenge : White Balance

Here’s today’s efforts at playing with White Balance:
I was taking photos in the Shade outside.

Shade Setting/ ISO 200/ Fstop 11 ( I think I have that last one right)

Cloudy Setting/ISO 200/Fstop11

Auto Setting/ISO 400/9.0 Fstop

I didn’t have a grey card to do an custom white balance but I may try with a white piece of paper.  I’m trying to understand all of this but with my camera I also have to pick all the other settings on my camera when I pick the White Balance.   I don’t know if I tried the other settings differently if I’d gotten much different pictures.  But here’s what I got today.

After some feedback here are a few more shots:
Inside the house by a light with the overhead light on too….

My subject was "on the move" so the photos leave a lot to be desired in the content catagory but here it is…

YIKES….my first attempt with the camera set on tungsten

Attempt #2  Tungsten setting and Camera on TV mode (not AV)

My model with my self-made 18% grey card…

MY home made grey card shot…

And my shot with custom WB
ISO at 400; Shutter at 1/8 and Aperture at 6.3
(and I’m still really learning how the shutter and aperture work)
But I can see in this one that the white looks much whiter.  Thanks Alyssa.  Can’t wait to see what you think.

Here they are as close as I could get them.  I can’t figure out the side by side arrangement.

I didn’t correct these with my Photoshop program.  I just left them as is.

Are you to busy to think?

Sometimes I feel so caught up in my life I forget how to think, how to be quiet, how to ponder.

Last night my daughter woke up around 5am.  She came to get in the bed with us and my husband got up to put her back in the bed.  She wasn’t happy and I could hear her crying from her bedroom.  The crying got louder and when I got up to check on her my youngest son was in her room trying to comfort her. (Awww…)

I shuffled him back to bed and went in to try quieting her.  I curled up beside her and soon she was quiet and still.  So, here’s my few minutes of quiet, time to think and ponder when the house is dark and still and the only sound in the suckling of my daughter enjoying her thumb.

I thought of how much like God I was to my daughter.  Not in a sick and twisted sense but in the way He enters my room (heart, life) and I am quiet.  My heart stills.  I feel safe and all is well.  He is my comfort.  He calms my fears. AND He’s the only One who can give the comfort I seek.

What a glorious picture of Himself God gave me very early this morning as I snuggled next to my 3 year old.  My soul longed for Him again in the still of the night.   During my busy day I often forget to just stop, close my eyes, and invite Him into my room to curl up beside me and hold me tight.

I like being held tight by Him….
Longingly,
julie

Field Trips! Field Trips

I’m excited because I’ve been planning field trips for the last two days.  Congaree National Swamp near Columbia SC has an OWL Walk on Friday nights from 7:30-9:30pm.  Does that sound cool or what???  That’s scheduled for sometime in October.
I think we may visit Stone Mountain, Georgia for my youngest son’s birthday and check out the lazer show they have after dark.  It sounds like a fun trip and we may even be able to swing a night in a hotel room too.  My kids love that!!!
Then, we have the Apple Orchard trip planned for the end of October and a Wolf Howl (in the NC mountains) for the first of November!
Hey, you guys want to come too???
We’re going to have fun!!

Movie Star or Minnie Mouse?

Football Weekend

Many of you may know (yea right!) that here on the East Coast Appalachian State University recently beat Michigan in a beginning season upset.  My little school, Elon University, played Appalachian this weekend.  It was a sold out game with 13,100 people.  We traveled there to visit my folks and to go to the game.

13,100 people! … let me tell you, for Elon, that’s a lot of people.  It was a good game and Elon held their own through most of the game.  Appalachian did win but Elon put on a good show!

Here are a few pictures from the game.  We had grass seats so we arrived 2 hours early to claim our spots.  Here’s #2 son with a giant pretzel before the game……
Here are some or country’s finest parachuting into the stadium before the game.

It was really cool to see these guys.  They doubled into the stadium.

Here are my hubbie and oldest son watching Elon warm up.

And this guy walked around with a puppet.  The boys loved it.  My two oldest are in the "My Maroon is Hot" shirts.

What did you do this weekend?
