Labor Day Ramblings

Today is Monday, the Labor Day holiday.

We slept in the camper last night in the driveway.  I think it’s my favorite way to camp.  I have to admit I am a fair weather camper.  I still like being somewhere close to the house so camping in my driveway is ideal!

Yesterday I found two stray kittens in the middle of the road.  They were so pitiful.  All fur and bones, no meat on them at all.  So of course they are in my bathroom now with kitten food and water and I’m hoping they’ll put on a little weight before I have to take them to the pound or animal rescue.  We already have four cats and my hubbie is not a cat fan.  So these little guys must go.  I’m hoping God has a plan for them and will provide them with a home.

I was the first one up this morning so I opened the sliding doors on the screened-in-porch before putting the coffee on.  It was one of those wonderful moments where all just seemed right with the world.  The birds were churping, a dog barked in the distance, my family was still asleep…safe and sound in the camper, …..hmmm, I felt the Father’s rest.  That wonderful place He invites us into every day.  The place we are too busy to see, much less feel.

I’m reading Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge right now.  It’s the most awesome book.  Every woman ought to read it at some point in their life.  The authors talk about how beauty invites us to rest and it is so true.  Whether it is the beauty inside of us reflecting God’s heart or the beauty of a sunset, flower or the smile of a child; beauty encourages us.  It invites us to rest and it gives us hope.

Almost every chapter causes me to put the book down and reflect on what was said.  It’s been life changing for me.

Well, happy Labor Day.  We’ve taken the day off of school and are doing absolutely nothing.

IN HIS REST,

JULIE

It really helped me to understand what drives me (and what feels like my crazy emotions) sometimes. It just really rang true in so many areas – past and present. It helped me to understand other women and I even talked with Tony about some of it and it's really given him some great insights as well.

It's one of those books that I think I'll be going back to again and again….

  2. This book changed my life and I recommend it to everyone. I even went back and re-read it. I'll blog about it one day.
