Does anyone out there make your own fabric softener or laundry detergent???
Please let me know if you do or know anyone who does.
Thanks
Julie

I have made my own laundry soap and dishwashing detergent before–never tried fabric softener, except I've heard that vinegar works. Still have the recipes.
God bless,
Christine
Here's a recipe I "lifted" off someone's else's blog, but it doesn't say whose it was……
Powder laundry soap:
2 cups borax
2 cups washing soda (not baking soda but it is made by Arm & hammer)
1 bar zote soap
Grate soap. I use a carrot peeler and then put it into a mini chopper to get it more fine. Then mix with the borax & washing soda. Keep in an airtight container. –Use 2 Tablespoons for small or med loads and 3 for Large loads.
*You can add a cup of color-safe bleach in with this and mix well. It smells nice, but I don't think it's really necessary.
Liquid laundry soap
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
1/2 bar zote soap
Grate soap. (no need to put in chopper) Put in a large pot with 4 cups water. Put on low burner until soap is melted. Meanwhile in a 2-3 gallon clean bucket place 1 1/2 gallons hot water. Pour the washing soda and borax in warm water and stir. Then pour in the hot melted soap. Stir. Then go back and stir it again about every hour for about 3 hours. Then let set overnight (do not put lid on) Then it is ready to use. I use about 1/4 cup for small loads and 1/2 for large.
*This will NOT look like regular liquid detergent! It will look like jelly clumps in water. (That is ok!)
**I have tried using ivory soap in place of zote and it works ok, but I think the zote gets better results. I have been making this for my sister and I do use ivory for the baby's batch.
I've not used it yet myself…..bethanyrae
I use the same dry recipe as the other commenter. You can use any type of bar soap and it still works great. My son likes to help with the grating until it gets too small. It has sort of become "his job". I also use a bar of Fels Naptha for a stain treater. You just wet the area and rub the bar on it. Let it sit for a minute and wash it. I have saved a lot of money on detergent and treater.
