Ok, now what???

Well now that we are back from the beach where my children ran with wild abandon for a week they have completely lost their minds now that we are home.  They have no idea how to entertain themselves, they are driving me and one another crazy and I'm going to list them on EBAY if it goes much further!!  Anybody bidding?

So I need your help.  My kids are 7,6,4,2.  We do not have a pool but have friends with pools so that occupies some time.  I'm not a fan of lots of TV or Playstation.

HELP me!  What do your kids do all summer?  I can not constantly entertain them as they want me to.  Please, please give me your suggestions, ideas or anything else?

JULIE

Julie, I answered you here, but the “comment” became very long, so I switched it to an entry on my blog.

My kids would adore some time at the beach. We haven’t done much of anything yet this summer. It might be time to make some plans.

[Okay, side note. ACK! I didn’t know who you were at first! *laughter*]

I have a sort of long response over at Shurleen’s blog, but here’s a short one.

    We play outside. A lot.

    We play inside. A lot.

We make messes and have to help mommy clean them up. A lot LOT.

We read, we draw, we Geocache, we garden, we hike, we do our chores and clean the house.

    We live.

Hmm… we don’t do anything, really. 🙂 And now I’m starting to write a book, too. Must be a good question to provoke such responses!

My boys suggest Bacci ( lawn bowling) , but 2ds11 says ” watch out for the balls they are hard wood. But if you took it easy it should be alot of fun and you can easily do it in a back yard or park. (0:

    PS: Come see the latest developments my 1ds13 has done to my blog ( music is one thing, it makes me …. Happy (0;

bug hunting is our favorite thing to do. Give them jars with lids or buy a bug kit at Target or Walmart. Set out a tablecloth on the grass under a tree, have snacks and read books. Bubbles are so much fun. Get the puzzles out. Get those punching balloons and take them outside. They are cheap and loads of fun. You may want to pick yourself up some earplugs, they are LOUD! Hope that helps!

    Hey Julie!

I SO relate! My latest “most despised phrase” has become….”I’m bored!!”. Can you believe it? I never thought I would hear that out of the mouths of my precious angels, BUT…….I do have a double-digiter now….and 3 other little Mina Birds(sp?)…11, 9, 7and 6. Ha! Ha! With the weather so beautiful lately, I simply point to the door and sing “Outside!”. For LOTS of other ideas, you can refer to my “Family Life ABC’s” link….there’s a ton of great family fun ideas that the kids and I have collected. Another point to reflect on is this….try not to be the one they depend on for activity and entertainment. Encourage them to be imaginative and adventureous. Perhaps start them out at times with a short list of suggestions, but let them come to their own conclusion…..just something to ponder ofcourse.

    Have a great summer!

List them on Ebay…you might start a new fad!!!! We try to do a lot of art projects in the summer. It’s so hot here, going outside during the day, is pretty scary. LOL!

when we actually get to be home we…

draw, play playdough, make forts, collect bugs, geocache (www.geocaching.com), play dolls, sew doll clothes, help make lunch, take nature hikes, play with friends on the swingset, make popsickles, play board games, make jewelry, clean up our messes, watch (gulp) videos so mom can get stuff done, torment our baby sister, clean our room, take a bath, sidewalk chalk, play on Jaedyn’s scooter, go fishing with daddy, take 4-wheeler rides with daddy, climb trees, play with boxes (they make great hide-outs, make slushes, color in coloring books, read, do pages out of our math or phonics workbooks, bead-trinket deally bobs that I have to iron together, duplo-blocks, lincoln logs, imaginative play (usually with the topic of whatever books we’ve recently read), make puppet-shows, make up plays, play charades, make fairy houses…
